Can Bearded Dragons Eat Carrots?

Carrots are a root vegetable that is usually orange in colour, although yellow, white, red and purple varieties exist. Carrots have a crisp texture when they are fresh.

So can bearded dragons eat carrots at all?

Lets take a look at their nutritional data, in particular we are interested in;

    1. The calcium:phosphorus ratio. This is because high levels of phosphorus has the ability to block the conversion of calcium. As most live feeders are have high phosphorus levels, the best way of leveling this out is to offer foods that have a high calcium:phosphorus ratio.
    2. The vitamin A content should not be high.
    3. The ratio of vitamin A to vitamin D to vitamin E should be 100:10:1.

This means that bearded dragons cannot eat them regularly at all.

In fact, they can only eat them on an occasional basis, chopped up finely and in small amounts in conjunction with a staple food.
